Quick Help

Saving Searches

At the top of the search results you will be able to save your search in a number of ways:

Jobs by Email
Receive email notifications for results matching your search criteria, you can choose to receive immediate notifications or a daily summary.

RSS Feed
Generate an RSS feed matching your search criteria for use on your preferred RSS feed reader or portable device.

Save Search
Saving a search will allow you to quickly perform the same search again the next time you visit the website.
Saved searches can be easily accessed by viewing the “My Searches” tab whilst logged in to your Candidate
profile.

Add to Favourites
Add the results of this search to your web browser’s favourites so you can view it again later.

Refining Searches

After running a job search you will have the ability to narrow down your search results to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Multiple Town Names
If more than one location with the same name exists, each location will be listed at the top of your search results and you can choose the correct one.

Proximity Search
The Proximity bar allows you to expand or reduce the radius of the search, from 1 to 100 miles. The number of jobs matching your current search will be displayed for various distances. Click on a different distance to view those jobs.

Salary Ranges
The Salary/Rate panel on the left hand side of the search results page allows you to refine the search by salary (per annum) or contractor rate (hourly). The number of jobs for each pay range is shown in brackets.

Industries
The Industries panel on the left hand side of the search results page allows the search to be refined by industry sector. The number of jobs for each industry sector is shown in brackets.

Boolean Searching

Improve the effectiveness of your searches by using one or more of the following three Boolean search terms:

A variety of different Boolean terms can be included within the same search string; however you may need to include brackets to change the order of precedence:

Examples:

(Java OR HTML) AND London
(Java OR HTML) AND (London OR Surrey)
Java AND (Developer OR Engineer)

Math Searching

Improve the effectiveness of your searches by using one or more of the following three Math symbols:

Search Fields

Industry

The industry sector where the job was advertised by the recruiter, for example an ‘IT Manager’ will be found on the IT industry, whereas an ‘Electrical Engineer’ job may be found on the Engineering or Electronics industries.


Uploaded Within

Filter your search results to only display jobs that have been advertised within the chosen time period. Choosing the "Within 0 days" option will display the freshest jobs advertised in the last 24 hours, whilst choosing "Within 7 Days" will display all live jobs that are currently advertised.


Job Title

Search for words or phrases that must exist within the Job Title field.

For example - "Software Engineer" or "Sales Manager".

You can also perform Boolean and Math logic searches within this field.


Job Type

Filter your search results by Job Type by selecting Contract, Permanent or a combination of the two.


Keywords

Search for words or phrases that must exist within either the Job Title, Job Description or Location.

For example - "Graphic Designer", Dreamweaver, Photoshop, London.

You can also perform Boolean and Math logic searches within this field.

If you are trying to find a specific job posting on the StartJobSearch website, you may already know the "JS" reference number - you may search for it here.


Country

Perform searches within StartJobSearch’s location specific websites - each covering different geographic regions across the world.


Location(s)

Search for jobs that are located within a specific location or area.

You can also perform Boolean and Math logic searches within this field.


Distance

Filter your search results to exclude jobs that are located outside of your chosen area.

Please note – to use this option you must also provide at least one Town/City/Post Code or Zip Code within the Location(s) field.


Posted By

If you have a preference for jobs advertised by Recruiters/Agencies or Direct Employers – you may select it here.


Category

Multiple categories can be chosen to find specific types of work, where the categories have been chosen by the advertiser.


Salary Range

Choose your minimum and/or maximum desired salary.

Please note – some Recruiters may not provide a salary/rate when advertising with StartJobSearch, and by choosing a salary range you may be restricting yourself from seeing such jobs in your search results.


Eligibility

Filter your search results based on each advertiser’s employment requirements.


'Search' Button

Start the search with the chosen criteria.
