Title: Unix/Linux Systems Administrator Start date: late May - early June End date: End of 2011 - contract to hire Job description: Our client is looking for a Jr. Linux/UNIX System Administrator to join their Enterprise Systems Support Group (consisting of mostly Solaris and Linux Servers). Candidate must be able to acclimate to our fast paced, highly regulated, and process driven environment quickly. Scope: Perform a variety of assignments associated with monitoring and controlling computer operating systems. Set up and maintain more than one type of computer system. Analyze system faults, troubleshoot and run diagnostic tests on operating systems and hardware to detect problems. Evaluate and install developed software during various phases of testing. Review and prepare documentation for systems, tests and installation of software. Initiate preventive maintenance on the operating systems and implement solutions to system/environment problems. Administer systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules. Interfaces with vendors for trouble calls. Support the implementation of system/environment requirements for individual projects. Position requires participation in 24x7x365 on-call rotation. Some travel required. Skills, education: Prefer a Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related technical discipline. Desired Skills: Strong knowledge in system administration/design responsibilities in an enterprise environment. Solaris, Linux, HPUX, AIX, Tru64 experience is a plus. Experience with Veritas Volume Manager, Veritas Cluster Server, DiskSuite, Jumpstart, Kickstart, EMC DMX, EMC Clariion, Hitachi 9900 class frames, Network Appliance filers, Legato Networker, Firewalls, networking and Microsoft Office would be viewed favorably. |
