Tool Designer  

Permanent

In this role, the selected candidate will design various tooling, fixtures, and gauging for machining, welding, assembling, and testing of all valves and valve components. This position works directly with MFG Engineers, Product Design Engineers, Quality, Safety, N/C Programmers, Tool and Die shops and Production Operators. This person serves as technical support for tooling related issues on new product designs and manufacturing processes.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop tooling layouts and detailed component drawings from the layout using CAD
  • Design software (AutoCAD and Inventor)
  • Create tool lists of all required tooling for each machining operation on process Routers
  • Determine disposition of discrepant gages and advise quality department
  • Design safety equipment and devices as required
  • Provide support to the shop on all tooling related issues
  • Continuous improvement projects
  • Develop and maintain charts of tooling
  • Work on special projects
  • Communicates in a manner that conveys credibility and confidence that he/she will deliver on the customer's needs
  • Interact closely with the customer to understand his needs or requirements (asks intelligent questions, verify understanding of the issues, etc.)
  • Encourage and support others to perform their jobs more effectively (provide advice, tools, and/or resources)
  • Actively facilitate group processes during team meetings; encourage participation from all team members
  • Identify the adoption of external best practices regarding tech

Education/Experience:
  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience as a Tool Designer in a manufacturing environment are required
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of emerging technologies and trends that could impact the field and the business
  • Machining processes for lathes and machining centers
  • CAD/CAM systems
  • General computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • SAP software
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic used in fixture design
  • Mechanical drafting and tolerance standards
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and operating and maintenance instruction and procedure manuals
  • Ability to follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats
