Job Description

BENDIX SPICER FOUNDATION BRAKE LLC, a joint venture of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems and Dana Corporation, is the single complete source for brake system research, design, manufacturing, hardware and support for all foundation brake components and actuation systems for medium- and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, trailers, buses and other commercial vehicles in North America and around the globe.

We are looking for a Test Engineering Manager to work jointly in our Kalamazoo, Michigan and Elyria, Ohio facilities.

Responsibilities of Position:

  • This position organizes and directs a broad range of diversified and complex engineering technical activities within an assigned functional area.
  • Has full responsibility for interpreting and coordinating assignments in connection with several major engineering projects.
  • Responsible for the execution of approved policy decisions and must demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems, determining program objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects and developing standards for diverse engineering activities.
  • Manages test activity and performance of direct reports, engineer and technicians
  • Directs test planning activities with product engineering for disc brake, slack adjuster and actuator product lines
  • Create, prioritize and manage test plans for foundation brake products
  • Directs all upgrades and purchases of test equipment.
  • Coordinate accurate, standard and non-standard foundation brake product tests in the lab and on vehicles
  • Develop test plans using DOE strategies to effectively meet product reliability goals
  • Design and development of new test and measurement systems for vehicle and lab tests
  • Develop metrics to drive improved productivity and quality
  • Provide technical direction and support to technicians performing tests
  • Support test projects at offsite locations including Marshall Proving Grounds and customer locations
  • Interface with and give presentations to internal and external customers
  • Application of QS9000 quality system requirements to department processes and assets
  • Promote and support a team focus toward meeting the needs of internal and external customers
Required Skills
  • Knowledgeable in engineering design processes throughout product life cycle (concept, development, product support, end of life).
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, closure, decision-making and driving for success/results
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and analytical skills
  • Multi-tasking capabilities and the ability to manage time and priorities efficiently
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
  • Customer focus (internal and external customers)
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, Microsoft Project and PowerPoint
Required Experience
  • Engineering degree required
  • BSME or BSEE preferred
  • 5 plus years experience in fatigue, performance or testing of automotive or commercial vehicle mechanical products
  • Experience with test machine instrumentation, control systems, and data acquisition
  • Experience with quality systems and tools including QS9000, APQP, DFMEA
  • Experience with heavy duty braking components preferred
  • 3 years + of supervisory/leadership experience
