Contract

Software Technician
Execute tests for regular passes, field issues, etc.
Spends the majority of time testing.
Interface with others in test and development to create new test cases and update existing tests.
Work with field agents and PE team members to address engineer new tests in response to field concerns and to test new SPRs.
Participate in department initiatives such as the automation committee, process improvement projects, etc.
Participate in the agile development process, contribute to daily scrum meetings and act as test representation in agile sprints.
Train and facilitate training for new team members, both in Lexington and in international offices.
Maintain and update automation scripts.

Detailed Job Descriptions
Software Technician
Work in a dynamic department that tests firmware for new single and multi-function inkjet and Laser printers. At a high level, the firmware receives print data from the host computer via network, USB, or some other interface, processes the print data, converts it to a printable format, works with custom ASIC electronics to interface to the print mechanism, and controls the print mechanism.

The test department tests a variety of firmware functionality including network, security, and Lexmark solutions. The department is organized in teams to test specific areas of the firmware. The teams work closely with development to discuss/debug issues and to plan testing strategies for future functionality. The primary development departments involved are firmware, scanner, and hardware/cartridge. The department also works with other test departments to ensure all aspects have adequate coverage, to reduce redundant testing, and to ensure the overall process is efficient.

The software technician requires strong engineering and communication skills, to:
- Thoroughly test and ensure the quality of products that utilize a number of new technologies within a focus area. Testing is a primary focus of this position.
- Work with others on the team to continually improve processes and techniques and to update and create tests as needed.
- Document test strategies, review specifications/design/code, communicate issues, solve problems, and share knowledge and expertise.

Responsibilities include:
Assist in designing test approaches for new functionality:
o Work closely with the test team lead, test engineers, and development teams to research new functionality.
o Create test strategies and plan new testing approaches and tools, documenting and reviewing per the peer review process.
o Communicate and train other team members on new technology and associated tests.
Test printer software, reporting problems to the development engineers and assisting them in debugging.
Assist other software technicians, test engineers, development engineers, and testers with functionality, testing, troubleshooting, etc.
Comply with existing procedures and standards, such as coding standards, peer review process, configuration management process.

Requirements:
B.S or B.A.. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering is required and GPA 3.0/4.0 or above is desired

Coursework should include:
networking and network protocols, operating systems, data structures, algorithms.

It is preferred that coursework include:
software engineering principles, object-oriented design, compiler design, and Embedded systems design. It is desired that coursework include security.

Experience debugging/troubleshooting software/hardware issues is required.
Good written and verbal communication skills are required.
Self-motivation is required.
Unix/Linux experience is required.

Candidate should have 1-2 years of experience.
