JOB SUMMARY The Plumbing Inspector is responsible for inspecting all buildings and residential homes including new construction and rehabilitation. The incumbent works under the direct supervision of the Buildings Commissioner. This position is classified as Civil Service. Starting salary is $55,998.90. WORK ACTIVITIES Inspection Duties: Inspects all buildings and residential homes. Inspects job sites throughout the construction process. Performs final inspections on job sites. Reviews plumbing permits and plans. Meets contractors and plumbers on various job sites. Identifies all violations upon inspection and refers them to City Prosecutor if necessary. Provides notification to the Clerk of Courts of any violations. Other Duties: Researches answers to questions regarding approved materials for sewers, building drains, stacks and waste vents as determined by the Ohio Revised Code. Maintains the daily log, records and correspondence in accordance with card filing system. Prices permits that are required by law or ordinance. Researches any other answers to question not found in the Ohio Revised Code. The Plumbing Inspector works a 35 hour week from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. which includes one unpaid hour for lunch. The position is Full time and operates 12 months a year. The environment of the incumbent varies from site to site. The stress level for this position is very low. The position requires some physical activity and requires mobility due to the different types of environments the incumbent may encounter. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Upon hire, a Plumbing Inspector must have: A high school diploma or equivalent Certification by the state of Ohio/Board of Buildings Standards for Plumbing Inspector and Building Inspector. Certification as a Residential Building Official or Residential building Inspector preferred. A valid State of Ohio driver's license A Journeymen's license Good verbal skills After hire, a Plumbing Inspector must have: Knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code Knowledge of up-to-date laws and ordinances affecting plumbing and building codes Knowledge of reference materials regarding plumbing and building inspections Knowledge of pricing permits Knowledge of the City of Parma's geography |
