MID-LEVEL Oracle DBA

A description of this position is below.

Job Summary
The MID-LEVEL Oracle DBA is responsible for administering internal database Servers and application Servers. As part of the development shop, this role works closely with the development group to support their activities in a timely basis. The primary server platforms supported are Oracle RDBMS and JBoss Application Server.

This role requires a flexible, high-energy individual who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Such individual must be very hands-on as well as possess solid organizational and planning skills. Strong communication skills are essential as this role will interact with senior internal and client personnel as will as others with highly technical backgrounds.

This individual will report to the Application Development Lead.

Responsibilities
Monitors and maintain the smooth operations of application and database and Servers. This includes applying code drops, performance tuning, backup strategy, security management, etc. Makes recommendations for server sizing, hardware and software requirements. Troubleshoots hardware and software issues on the Servers under administration. Installs software (operating system and applications) on Servers. Develops and documents administration processes and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Academic/Educational Requirements
University degree or equivalent. Preference given to Oracle certification. Relevant and specific courses and certifications are important.

Required Skills and Experience
Five years of relevant IT experience and a minimum of one year of Oracle DBA experience. Working experience of configuring and managing a JBoss Application Server. Experience with Orion, OC4J and WebSphere is desirable. Working knowledge of one or more of SQLServer, MySQL, DB2, Sybase, MS Access. Advanced knowledge of relational database theory and design. Proficiency with Oracle PLSQL. Preference will also be given to additional database Scripting languages (like T-SQL). Proficiency with a general-purpose Scripting language such as bash or PERL. Strong working knowledge of Windows and Linux (or Unix). Strong understanding of networking. Working knowledge of server virtualization. Very well organized individual, who can multi-task.
