Field Sales Specialist - Cloud-based software solution for Film/TV/Broadcast Sector

Location: Home-based within the New York area
Salary: $100k - $120k Base, $150k - $180k OTE

 

THE COMPANY AND SITUATION OVERVIEW:

The media and entertainment division of a multi-billion dollar worldwide telecoms company now requires its first ever US-based salesperson for their cloud-based enterprise media management system. Although they require you to reside within striking distance of the New York area, you'll be home-based, have the entirety of the US as your patch and an existing account management/sales team as a potential source of leads.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The experience they are seeking is as follows:

- Media sector experience: Their definition of media in this context is any of: TV, film, video and audio content creation, video publishing, film publishing, film studios, satellite DTH, mobile video, IPTV.

- Detailed media knowledge, such as media workflows, media technology, experience of how media companies run their business and run their media and asset management (if you don't know about different VTR types or what a BNC is, you won't be right for this!).

- Existing contacts within the media industry across production, post-production, broadcasters and media service providers.

- Previous experience as a supplier/service provider TO the media sector as opposed to solely working IN the media sector

- Sales experience: Your sales experience should be long sales cycle, consultative sales process experience. This is not an availability sell (ie selling hardware or tangible items). This is an ROI, business benefit, multi-level sell.

- The attitude to fit in to a matrixed organisation, where you'll be associating with many existing account managers

- Gravitas in client meetings, to the extent that you can carry the confidence of the customer with you (this would come from your media sector experience)

- Strong documentation skills: The ability to clearly and quickly document the customer requirement that can then form the basis of a bid. Can you think clearly and write simply?

 

Please note the above criteria are essential - you require all of the above to be eligible for this role. Please be aware there is no point applying if you've never worked in the media sector or you have no sales experience!

 

THE JOB:

This is a brand new role and you would be the first ever US-based salesperson for this product, their unique cloud-based enterprise media management system with some powerful selling points and USPs. You'll be home-based and have the entirety of the US as your patch, however they require you to be based near New York as that is where the existing direct salesforce, and hence your source of leads, is based. They also require you to be in the EDT timezone in order to have the largest possible timezone overlap with the UK, as that's where most of your support stems from. Your main task here is to design and sell complex solutions to media clients and manage the whole sales cycle.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As for the next step for this person career-wise: It's early days for this product, so this is an opportunity to be in at the ground floor. The company wishes to put a management structure in as the business grows, so there is an opportunity for a rapid rise through the ranks.

Longer term, the opportunities arise from the fact that unlike a lot of businesses currently, this is a stable multibillion dollar turnover company, so within that organisation there are huge opportunities to migrate to other parts of the business and management structure. This is not a dead-man's shoes kind of environment!

Why come here? Why do this? This is the market segment in which the majority of the money is being spent and where the growth is for people with media skills and sales skills.

The money in the media market place has arguably moved away from the classic areas of broadcasting into the preparation, reformatting and repurposing of content to be available through multiple outlets. If you have the above experience, come here and capitalise on that trend!
