We have an immediate opening for a Technician 3, Specialty Products (Temporary) located in in our NE OH Corporate Head Quarters located in Elyria.

Position Summary:
Work consists of interacting with Engineers and other Technicians to perform tasks related to support of current production specialty products as well as prototype components, specifically Automatic Slack Adjusters and Spingbrakes. Tasks include cost reduction, troubleshooting issues, assembling customer samples, qualification of test hardware, evaluating potential new component suppliers and field testing. Test data is gathered using typical hand tools (micrometer, torque wrench, cycle counter, etc) as well as transducers and data acquisition equipment. Ability to work both in the lab and in the field with transducers, thermocouples, LVDTs and recorders is a plus.

Essential Functions:

  • Become knowledgeable in all Specialty CoC devices (ASA-5, Versajust, ASA-6, ASA-6i, Ultrajust, service chambers, piston spring brakes, and double diaphragm spring brakes).
  • Measure performance of above products using laboratory test methodologies.
  • Set up and conduct testing with instruction/discussion with an Engineer.
  • Analyze test results, make recommendations and provide a conclusion. (In the form of written reports)
  • Use Daisy Lab data acquisition software - apply skills in both the laboratory and the field to solve product issues.
  • Work within a team environment to solve product issues.
  • Improve engineering processes and test methodologies.
  • Write and maintain test procedures.
  • Perform evaluation of products returned from customers.
  • Fabricate and improve test fixtures as needed.
  • Order hardware required for laboratory or field testing.
  • Interface with outside customers to plan field test installations or evaluations.
  • Install test hardware on vehicles and periodically inspect test hardware.
  • Perform detail audits of production devices.
  • Work with customers to resolve product application opportunities/issues.
  • Define and develop cost reduction opportunities.
  • Execute routine maintenance on all test equipment
  • Assist and lead in the creation of new test beds as required
Required Skills

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of business analysis tools and methods (Bendix systems desirable, eg charts and graphs in MS excel, print reading, engineering specifications, etc)
  • Knowledge of BSFB customers (direct exposure to heavy duty trucks preferred).
  • Trucking Industry knowledge, specifically as it relates to vehicle and vehicle brake maintenance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft software products including Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in basic measurement tools including Micrometer, Torque Wrench, Caliper, etc.
  • Data acquisition skills desirable.
  • Problem solving skills desirable.
  • Effective in working in teams and developing solutions through collaboration.
  • Customer focused.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Machining and welding skills beneficial.
  • Self-starter with high level of energy.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Solid interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
