DBA Manager  

Permanent
The DBA Manager will be responsible for monitoring the work of the production and development database administrators (-DBAs-) and for ensuring the communication with the user/developer community. This position reports to the Director of Data Services and will partner with the Managers of Application Development and the Business Intelligence Manager to facilitate and support development activities for these groups. Excellent verbal communication skills, technical abilities and superior leadership ability are required to communicate with both the DBA group and the user community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct management of a team of development and production DBAs.
  • Perform SQL code reviews during key points of the SDLC and enforce compliance with SQL coding and data modelling standards.
  • Work with business units to understand application change requirements and goals and aid the development of scalable, available, and high performance schema changes in the databases.
  • Facilitate the support of customer data security policies using encryption, views, hardware, software and other techniques to minimize the profile of highly sensitive data either static in data stores or while in transit.
  • Oversee the troubleshooting of performance problems in production, during development and QA testing to provide possible solutions and/or fixes.
  • Work with Application Development Managers to insure levels of support from Development DBAs are adequate to support the product development team.
  • Provide the Director of Data Services and other senior IT management with an overview of any 24/7 incident response due to database events.
  • Provide technical support to the production DBAs in a 24x7 production environment.
  • Verify Backup/Restore processes to insure usability.
  • Enhance and facilitate communication between development and production DBAs.
  • Responsible for contributing to and implementing enterprise-class
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 8 years database and SQL experience, at least 5 of which must be in environments with complex, multi-gigabyte databases for E-commerce applications.
  • At least 3 years experience in a production 24x7x365 database environment.
  • Minimum 3 years management experience.
  • Professional experience with SQL Server (-SS-) 2005, SS2008, Analysis Services and Integration services.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
