Commodity Managers - Electrical/Mechanical

  • Negotiate terms and conditions for all assigned commodities including long term contracts. Draft terms for review by the Purchasing Manager. Identify areas of potential organizational vulnerability either financially or manufacturing.
  • Lead cost reduction/savings program for assigned commodities. Develop and maintain metrics and counter measures.
  • The Commodity Manager maintains supplier base by identifying and including optimum number of suppliers. In conjunction with supplier quality engineer, Lead and conduct supplier site visits. Coordinate departmental supplier evaluation program.
  • Participate in new product launch initiatives including the sourcing of new materials and the qualification of new suppliers.
  • Coordinate efforts of purchasing team on special projects as assigned. Provide training and assistance to buyers and other team members to assist with buying objectives.
  • Maintains Approved Supplier List (ASL) for assigned commodities.
  • Initiate and maintain good supplier relations; expedite deliveries as necessary; involve engineering for discussion and approval of alternative methods or materials if delivery is not available when required.
  • Work collaboratively with other internal departments such as accounting, quality, project management, R & D, and manufacturing to ensure there is an adequate flow of information concerning progress of materials, etc.
  • Develop, track, and execute the plans for execution of cross-functional supply chain related projects. Identify opportunities for cost and delivery improvement. Closely monitor all assigned projects and take appropriate action to ensure their successful completion. Report project progress to Purchasing Manager and team members as appropriate.
  • Plan, execute, and track progress for special assignments involving key measurable for the purchasing department (such as x-Matrix action plans, inventory reduction, supplier evaluations, cost reduction initiatives, training, forecasting, etc.).
  • Manage all open purchase orders to ensure accuracy and proper inventory levels. Discuss optimum inventory levels for purchased parts and negotiate inventory levels with inventory controls personnel. Assist as needed with reconciliation of inventory related issues.
  • Position requires travel as necessary.

Requirements

  • BS/BA degree - Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree preferred.
  • Experience in Supply Chain Management a plus.
  • APICS Certification preferred.
  • Minimum (5) five years as a Commodity Manager including sourcing experience in a high tech, electro-mechanical manufacturing environment with thorough MRP knowledge and functionality.
  • Advanced understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and inventory replenishment strategies.
  • ERP (such as Baan) experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success with cost reductions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, and to meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to lead a cross functional team, achieve desired results, and maintain relationships.
